My running adventure actually started in 2008. At Disney World! I was 39 turning 40 that year. I ran a half marathon in 3 hours 8 minutes and it was such an overwhelming feeling to cross that finish line! I wasn't walking very well for the next five days, as I didn't train properly for it, but I guess you could say that was a great learning experience.
It wasn't until the summer of 2010 that running became something more to me. Maybe if you run too you might understand. I Love running! I used to be a smoker and I finally quit for good that year, which could be a part of it, as I traded a bad habit for a better one.
In 2011 I ran my first Marathon, also at Disney. 6 hours of great fun with family. I was 42.
I love running and racing all distances from 5K to marathon. It's great to run for fun chatting and giggling with your run partner, taking pictures along the race route, stopping for a shot of beer in the last half of a marathon or posing for silly pictures before heading to the finish line. I've also gotten "dressed up" to race. It's the best way to have fun while you run! Of course the best part of each race, no matter the distance, or pace, is celebrating the finish!

| Qualified for Marathon Maniacs Miami 2013, two in 2 weeks! |
In 2014 I started to compete with myself. I realized my paces were becoming easier and I wanted to see what I was capable of. I'd still have my fun races with friends and family, but I would pick out others to see how well I could do compared to my last best. I was ready to try for some new personal records at all distances. It was a fantastic feeling to improve my times, because I never actually thought I could get better!
In February I ran 1:53:20 at the A1A Fort Lauderdale half marathon. An 8:39 pace! I looked up the Boston Qualifying times for my age, F45-49. I would have to run a full marathon in 3 hours 55 min. That's an ave pace of 8:58. Could I possibly be capable? Wouldn't it be an amazing thing to be able to run THE race?
I compare qualifying for Boston the "Super Bowl", "World Series", "Stanley Cup" or like I told my dad, a "Hole in One". My dad and my husband got their Hole in One. I wanted mine!
How often do you enter races just for fun?
Have you ever run THE Boston Marathon?
Would you ever want to try to qualify for Boston if you believed you could?
